North Central College presents the student-written and -directed drama “A Story of Us,” a narrative about relationships.

Three performances will be presented at 7:30 p.m. May 23-25 in North Central College’s theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth St.

The play explores the notion, “It’s the people you meet that make life worthwhile.” “A Story of Us” follows the lives of six characters and tells a shared narrative exploring the influence of past interactions on the present and future ambitions of others. Told through mixed moments of past and present, the story follows an engaged couple's relationship from introductions to their wedding day. Whether these interactions are for better or for worse, each character has a dramatic effect on the others’ lives.

“A Story of Us” is written and directed by North Central College senior Kevin Williams of Nashville, Tenn., majoring in musical theatre and psychology. As a part of the Student Director Series, this particular theatrical production is the first at North Central College to be completely devised, written and developed by the director and cast.

“Accompanied by original music from student composers and technical designs from students, the production team and cast have been able to input their personal perspectives into all aspects of the production,” Williams says. “Having the opportunity to work with a group of talented individuals to compose and design an original piece of theater has truly been a fantastic and thoroughly educational experience.”

The cast for “A Story of Us” features (role, actor, town, year, major):

Lizzy: Emily Schreiber of Lansing, a sophomore majoring in elementary education and theatre
Debra: Karen Forshall of Berwyn, a junior majoring in theatre
Laura: Jesek West of Cerro Gordo, Ill., a sophomore majoring in musical theatre
Jonathan: Brian Warren of Glendale Heights, a junior majoring in theatre
Elisabeth: Taylor Calderone of Mishawaka, Ind., a freshman majoring in musical theatre

Students of all majors can participate in musical and nonmusical performances, actor showcases and one-act plays and performances in the College’s four theatre venues.
